So if you plan on spending lots of time on the water per trip, you'll want the 24 volt and higher thrust to get you there and last all day and night if needed. I read all the time that boaters want more thrust in their trolling motors after they settle for a lesser thrust and cost. You like to fish the rivier and you know that you nose into the current you've got better control and so you'll be dealling with current etc. Remember if you get a 55# or 60# thrust with just a 12 volt system you'll eat the battery faster then if you get a 45# or 50# thrust. There are articles in both cabelas and bass pro about trolling motors and which ones are recamended for the weight and size of your boat. If you want to be out on the water all day the 24v systems are the way to go but as you can see are $$$. I'm hoping to fix my broken cable but if not, I'm going with the 24volt troller that are 65#, 70#, 71# on the low end. I currently have a 24volt system and those 24v trolling motors start at 500. I'm looking at new trolling motors also for my 17' basstracker.
